We are delighted to offer for sale this very large oil on canvas by the French artist Roger de la Corbiere, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner and inscribed it verso on the stretcher 'St. Lunaire (Ille et Vilaine)'. St. Lunaire is on the coast of Brittany, a subject much favoured by this artist. The painting also has a Frost and Reed label on the stretcher, identifying the artist and the title.

ROGER DE LA CORBIERE, 1893-1974, was a French artist who was born in Vienna. He studied under the Russian painter Choltse, who was a great exponent of light and shade particularly in snow scenes. He exhibited at the Paris Salon for 35 years, receiving the Silver Medal in 1954. In 1957 he received the Bronze Medal from the Salon des Independants. The French State acquired several of his paintings in 1925. His painting are in the collections of many well known persons throughout the world.

He worked mainly from his studio in Brittany, but also spent some time in the Riviera. His daughter carried on the family tradition, painting similar scenes.

The painting is framed in a 3 1/4" swept cream and gilt frame with gilt slip and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Condition Excellent condition. There are no repairs to the canvas which is clean and taut. There is no craquelure, paint loss or stretcher marks. The original frame is in very good condition.
