Description

We are pleased to offer for sale this extremely well executed by the Dutch artist Pieter Cornelis Steenhouwer, who has signed the painting P. C. Steenhouwer in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a Dutch canal scene, with two barges moored underneath a very typical dutch bridge, with another two coming up the canal. There are gabled buildings alongside the canal and a tall circular building with a spire just behind the bridge to the left. Unfortunately, we do not know the location.

Pieter Cornelis Steenhouwer was born in Rotterdam in 1896 and died in 1972. Other than this, we have been unable to obtain any further information about his life. His paintings appear in many countries, particularly in the United States, the Netherlands and the UK.

There are 76 listings for his paintings on artprice, as well as the other usual sites, and some images of his work are available on google images.

The painting is very well framed in a beautiful 3" swept gilt frame as shown, and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
