Charles Oswald Oil Painting Highland Cattle Dawn
Description
We are offering for sale this lovely oil on canvas by the artist CHARLES W. OSWALD, who has signed the painting C.W. Oswald in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a Highland landscape in the early morning, with a small herd of shaggy, highland cattle watering at the edge of a stream or burn, in the foreground. The bull on the right of the group is a magnificent beast, with his long horns and shaggy coat. There is mist billowing over the ridge of mountains to the right of the painting. We are also listing the companion painting to this one, painted at sunset.
CHARLES W. OSWALD was a Liverpool artist who, though very prolific, exhibited very little. He specialised in highland landscapes, rural scenes and painting featuring cattle and and working horses painted in oils. He lived at 258 Whitefield Road in Liverpool and did exhibit at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool in 1892. He is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists, Painters in the Northern Counties of England and Wales by Dennis Child and A Dictionary of Neglected Artists by Jeremy Wood.
Auction results and examples of work by this artist may be found at artprice (127 listings), findartinfo (70), artnet (48) and askart (13).
