This is a very well painted oil on canvas by the Derbyshire artist Emily Glover, who has signed the painting on a rock in the lower right hand corner and has entitled it verso on the canvas Lake Idwel (sic) Emily Glover. the painting depicts Lake or Llyn Idwal, which is situation below Cwm Idwal in the Glyderau Mountains in Snowdonia.

Emily Glover, who exhibited between 1871-1876, was a Derbyshire artist, who exhibited ten paintings in London exhibitions between the given dates. As her name was very common in that period and we do not know her birth date, we have been unable to find any confirmed details or dates of her birth or death.

She is listed in The Dictionary of Victorian Painters by Christopher Wood and Painters in the Norther Counties of England and Wales by Dennis Child. Her exhibition history is courtesy of Graves Directory.

The painting is framed in a more contemporary but very nice 3 1/8" ornate gilt frame which suits it very well. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Condition Excellent condition. The canvas is clean and taut. There are no repairs, no stretcher marks and only some extremely fine craquelure. The frame is in excellent condition.
