Description

We are offering for sale this lovely impressionist portrait by the Swiss Artist Marcelle Ducret, who has signed the portrait in full in the lower right hand corner and entitled it verso 'Tita de Carrie, Comtesse de Carrie daughter'. The portrait depicts Tita, looking pensive, wearing a hat and coat and with her brown hair cut in a bob.

Marcelle Ducret was born in Lausanne, Vaud, Switzerland in 1898 and was an Impressionist painter, who exhibited at the Salon des Independants in Paris in 1922 and 1923. She painted portraits (Source Benezit). There is some confusion at the auction sites and online, as there are listings for a Marcel Ducret, who may be her or may not. But, according to Benezit, she was definitely female.

There is one listing on artnet.com for a nude by this artist, which has the same palette as this painting, so is definitely her work.

Other than this, we can find no other biographical information on which we can rely and our other reference books do not give details of Continental artists. We have also been unable to find any information regarding the Comtesse de Carrie.

The painting has been newly framed in a 2 3/4" designer frame, which suits it very well. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
