Description
We are delighted to offer this excellent watercolour by the renowned 19th Century artist Lewis John Wood, who has signed the painting L. J. Wood in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a busy street scene in St. Omer in the Pas de Calais, with the tall, square tower of the Cathedral of Notre Dame,in the centre background. On the right hand corner of the street is a shop which has written on the side of the upper storey 'Magasin de Habillement' which means clothing shop. In the street, is a closed covered wagon and there are many figures clustered around the entrance to the shop, as well as further down the street. This is one of a pair of watercolours by this artist that we are listing.
