Description

We are pleased to offer for sale this lovely portrait by the monogrammist artist M.S. possibly circle of John Philip 1824-1875, who has signed the painting to the lower right of the figure. The painting depicts a bust length portrait of a very attractive young lady with a sweet expression. She has fair hair pulled back off her face with a short fringe and is wearing a turquoise dress, with a lace insert in the bodice, which is trimmed with a matching turquoise ribbon around the neck. She has a brooch in the centre of the neckline and a double row of pearls. She is also wearing pearl drop earrings.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to discover the full name of the artist of this lovely portrait. At some stage there was a label on the reverse of the canvas which may have yielded some information, but it is no longer present. However, the canvas was supplied by A. Rayner, 32 Francis Street, Tottenham Court Road, London W., who was only at this address between 1874-1877.

The painting is framed in its probably original 3" swept gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
