Description

We are offering for sale this large pair of oil paintings on canvas painted in the Pre-Raphaelite style by an unknown artist. They are very much in the style of Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, although much more naive. Angels were very much part of his subject matter and he also designed stained glass windows. His work is very well known. By the age of the canvas and the stretchers, we would date these to circa 1900-1910.

The angel on the right is wearing a coral coloured long dress with a sash and is wearing sandals. She is floating in a garden landscape, with the sea visible behind the tree. The one of the right is wearing a while long dress with a deep coral coloured overskirt and is floating in a wooden landscape. There are clumps of poppies beneath her. They are facing each other.

As the paintings were purchased unframed, they have been newly framed in a 2 3/4" gilt frame in the style of the period.
