Description

We are delighted to offer for sale this beautifully executed oil on canvas by the artist Onslow Bartlett, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner and dated it 1935. The painting depicts an equestrian scene, with a lady wearing a black riding habit, bowler hat white stock and white gloves, mounted sidesaddle on a bay hunter. She is carrying a riding crop. They are on a bridleway through light woodland.

The horse and rider have been painted with extreme attention to detail, while the background is more impressionistic in style, which focuses attention on the subject.

Unfortunately, we have, so far, been unable to discover anything about the artist, despite a search through births, marriages and deaths, although there was a Herbert Onslow W. Bartlett born in Hampshire in 1896, after which the trail goes cold. If anyone viewing this listing has any information about this talented artist, we would be delighted to hear from them.

The painting has been newly framed in a 3 1/2" ornate swept gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
