Description

We are delighted to offer for sale this beautiful and subtly toned oil painting by the artist Ernest Payne, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a blue and white vase, which is filled with a selection of summer flowers, including roses, love-in-a-mist, honeysuckle, auriculas, antirrhinums, marguerites and harebells. The vase is sitting on a marble ledge.

We will be listing another painting by this artist shortly.

Ernest Hart Payne was born in Thingoe in Suffolk in 1903, and appears to have lived in Suffolk his entire life until his death in Bury St. Edmunds in 1994. He specialised in floral still life paintings, although he did do some portraits.

There are two of his paintings in the National Collection, one floral still life and one portrait. Other than this, we have been unable to find out any further biographical details about his life.

Auction results for his work are available at artprice (8 listings) artnet (2), arcadja (5) and findartinfo (11).

The painting is framed in its original 2 5/8" cream and gilt swept frame and is ready to hang.
