Description

We are very pleased to offer for sale this beautifully and minutely detailed oil on canvas by the Italian artist E. Altrui, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a figure of a woman walking up a steep track into the hills surrounding Florence, with a panoramic view of the City behind her and to the left. The City has been painted with great care and the Duomo is clearly visible.

E. Altrui, was a 19th Century Italian artist who specialised in views of Florence, so we presume that he lived either in the City or close by. Unfortunately, although we have searched online and in our books, including Benezit, we can find no biograpical detail about his life.

However, auction results achieved for his work may be found at artprice (17 listings), artnet (25), arcadja (19) and askart (8). The highest price reached for one of his Florence views was in 2004 at Christie's London, where a painting, large than this one, made £1,205 plus premium.

The painting is framed in a custom made cream and gilt frame and linen slip and is ready to hang.
