Description

We are delighted to offer for sale this beautiful pastel portrait of a young girl. The subject is a young girl with long, wavy fair hair, tied back with a blue ribbon in a bow at the top of her head. She is wearing a white dress with a square neckline edged with blue ribbon, with a lace insert. She is wearing a gold locket on a black ribbon around her neck.

The pastel is unsigned, but on a part label on the back is stated 'Lucas and Tuck, Portrait Painters and Art Photographers, Haymarket S.W. Obviously, we do not know whether Lucas or Tuck drew the pastel, but we have confirmed that they existed prior to 1875 at this address, on the lst Floor, as the premises were occupied in 1875 by a William Henry Tuck, successor to Lucas and Tuck. We discovered this information on google in the National Photographic Archive.

The pastel has been double mounted with a gilt inner edge, and is framed in its original gilt frame with a ribbon and bow surmount.
