We are delighted to offer this interesting watercolour, which dates to the 1920s/1930s, by the monogrammist H.B., who has signed the painting to the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a young boy, dressed in the style of the period, who is adjusting the ropes of the topsail on his model galleon. The interesting thing about this watercolour is how, by adding the painted circle with the sea and sky behind the boy, the artist has given his work an Art Deco feel and given depth to the painting, as well as a nautical feel.

The identity of the artist, however, remains unknown to us, as there are no inscriptions on the back of the watercolour. The detail of the painting is excellent and has been executed by a very good hand.

We will be listing two further works by this artist over the next couple of weeks.

The painting is mounted with gilt tape and washlines and is most complementary to the work. It is framed in a 1 1/4" part gilded wooded frame and is ready to hang.
