Description

We are pleased to offer for sale this beautifully executed large pastel portrait of Queen Victoria in the later years of her reign, by an unknown artist. It is a head and shoulders portrait of the Queen and she is wearing the black of mourning, which she wore until her death in 1901. She is also wearing the blue sash of the garter. On her head she has a net veil under a diamond crown and she is also wearing diamond earrings and a large diamond pendant. We would date this pastel to around 1880-1890.

As the artist has not signed his or her work, we can offer no biographical information, save to say that the artist was very talented and excelled in this medium.

The portrait has been newly mounted in an oval, acid free gilt mount and is newly framed in a 3 1/4" glack and gilt frame which suits it very well. It is ready to hang.
