Description

This is an extremely finely executed watercolour and gouache by the artist C. Graham, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a view of the Dartmoor tors wreathed in mist, with a moorland path in the foreground and clumps of heather and bracken, which have been painted with infinite care and delicacy.

The attribution of this painting is difficult, as most of the West Country artists of this time, painting moorland scenes, used several pseudonyms, for example Douglas Houzen Pinder, who used Ben Graham and A. P. Shepherd, so this may be one of his, as it also bears his trademark flock of birds flying almost in a line. However, the work is very fine, possibly even finer than that of Pinder.

The painting has been newly double mounted to complement and is framed in a 1 3/8" bronze gilt frame to suit.
