Description

This is a superbly executed pastel by the artist DORIS WILLIAMS, who has signed the pastel in the lower right hand corner. The painted depicts a head and shoulders portrait of what we believe to be a red wirehaired vizsla, a breed which originated in Hungary. The quality of this pastel is excellent and the dog looks so lifelike.

We find it very strange that we have been unable to discover any biographical information on this obviously extremely talented artist and would ask if anyone knows anything about her that they contact us. We would be most grateful. On a recently purchased pastel, we have discovered a card from the artist, which says that she executed animal studies in pastel, with an address in Oundle, near Peterborough, Northamptonshire. From the telephone code on the card, we would estimate that the painting dates to pre 1960.

We have just been informed that she moved from Oundle to Australia to live with her son and that she continued with her painting until she died.

The pastel has been newly framed and glazed in a 2 5/8" bronzed and gilded frame, which suits it very well. It is ready to hang.
