Early Victorian Brass Footman Trivet V. Heavy
Description
We are offering for sale this large and very heavy solid brass Footman Trivet, which has a pierced top decorted with rows of quatrefoils and is raised on paw front legs. There are no makers marks visible, but the bolts attaching the front apron are marked CRANE, which we have discovered is the Crane Foundry in Wolverhampton. Joseph Crane took over the foundry in 1836 and registered his trademark of a crane in 1847, so we presume this item was made during this period. As opposed to trivets, which were used in kitchens, footmen were for use in the parlour, to warm dishes, muffins etc. and to stand kettles on.
Composition Solid brass.
