Description

We are pleased to offer a superb watercolour by the artist MICHAEL CRAWLEY, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner and entitled it verso, The 'Flat Iron' Building, Winter, New York. The painting depicts a view of this famous building, so called because of its shape, which has been executed from across a park on a snowy day in New York. The road through the park is lined with benches and a tall street lamp and the 'Flat Iron' building is outlined against a snowfilled sky. This is a very atmospheric and evocative painting.

Michael Crawley is a Derbyshire artist, who was apprenticed to the Royal Crown Derby porcelain factory in the 1950s and 1960s, who used some of his landscape and flower paintings as the basis for some of the designs. He paints in both oils and watercolours, principally landscapes of Derbyshire, although he has painted scenes in New York, Italy and France and also locomotives. More biographical information with regard to his time at Royal Crown Derby is available on google.

Auction results for Michael Crawley are available at artprice.com (173 listings) and findartinfo.com (260). His foreign paintings seem to attract higher prices.

The painting is mounted with a wash line and is framed in a 1/2" dark green frame. It is ready to hang.
