Description

This is an interesting and very well executed watercolour by the artist SILVIO NOCCIOTINAO, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner and dated it 1863. The painting depicts a Venetian scene, with a swarthy, bearded gentleman dressed in tights and padded breeches and wearing a cloak, delivering a letter a in gondola to a lady on a balcony. The lady is dressed in costume of a similar period and has her finger to her lips to denote silence and secrecy.

The artist has signed his name in small and flowery writing and we have interpreted it as above, however, we have been unable to discover any biographical information about him under this name. We have shown a photograph of the signature so that any viewers can make their own interpretation and, obviously, if anyone can correct us or who knows the artist, we should be delighted if they could contact us. We think that the artist is either Italian or possibly Portuguese.

The painting has been triple mounted in two tone to complement, and is framed in a 1 1/2" silver gilt frame to suit. It is ready to hang.

Medium Watercolours on paper.
