We are delighted to offer this beautiful pair of oval Romantic Pastoral Oil Paintings on mahogany panels, still in their superb original, giltwood, pierced frames. The paintings depict romantic scenes with courting couples in a pastoral setting. We believe they are European, probably Fremch or even possibly Italian. They are unsigned.

One of the paintings has a group of two couples and a dog in the foreground, two seated on the ground, while another couple are strolling by a lake, with more figures boating. The companion piece features a couple dancing to a tune being played by a musician on a wind instrument, who is seated near to them. They are also in a lakeside setting, with a tower in the distance.

We state that these are in their original giltwood pierced frames, proven by the fact that the backs were covered in peach silk, which has long since disintegrated, leaving the silk cord around the edge.

Provenance: With their previous Surrey owner for 40 years.

Condition: In original untouched condition, as proven by the fact that the original cord around the backs is still in situ There is some fine craquelure to the surface, but no paint loss or damage. The frames are in very good condition for their age.
