Description

We are offering for sale this very attractive Pastel Portrait of a Young Girl in winter.. It is obviously very chilly and she is holding her brown, fringed shawl wrapped tightly around her head with one hand, while holding a stick in her other. It is possible that she is a goose girl and is using the stick to herd the geese, or it is used for bowling a hoop. Alternatively, it could be the beginning of a collection of firewood. The pastel is unsigned. It dates to the late 19th Century and has been executed on paper laid to canvas, as shown. She is wearing a peacock blue coat over her other clothes. Her hair is blonde and she has brown eyes. She appears to be about 8 to 10 years old and has a very sweet expression.

Unfortunately, as there is no signature, we can offer no biographical information about the artist, but this is a most appealing portrait. It is possibly Continental in origin.

Tha painting is framed in its original, 1 3/4" oval gilt frame with beading and gilt slip. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
