19th C. Bronze Plaques Caesar & Otho Rococo Frames

Description

We are offering for sale this attractive Pair of Bronze Plaques cast in the 19th Century, which are housed in gilt brass rococo frames. They each bear a profile portrait of a Roman Emperor. The one marked OTHO.IMP is of Marcus Salvius Otho 28th April 32 AD - 16th April 69 AD. The one marked DIVI.IVLI is of Gaius Julius Caesar 12th July 100 BC - 15th March 44BC. Beware the Ides of March, as is often quoted.

Image size: 5 1/8 x 4 3/8 inches - 13cm x 11cm approx.

Frame size: 8 1/4 x 6 3/8 inches - 21cm x 16.2cm

Each plaque has the original hanging ring at the top as shown in the photographs.

Materials: Bronze & gilt brass

Condition: Very good. Some of the tabs around the back of each of the plaques have broken over the years and some have been replaced. However, they are held quite firmly within the frames with no movement. The frames are in very good condition.
