Description

We are offering for sale this atmospheric oil on board by the Hungarian artist Kiss Csaba, who has signed it with his monogram KCs in red in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts an older gentleman with a grey moustache, dressed in a hat and overcoat with the collar turned up, seated in his trap, which is pulled by a grey horse. Next to him on the seat of the trap is his dog. They are travelling along a rutted track by the dim light of the moon, which there must have been, as the trap's light is not lit. A fanciful thought, but he strikes us as a country doctor making an urgent visit to a patient.

The detail of this painting is very fine and it has been extremely well executed, particularly the trap and the grey horse and its tack.

This artist seems to specialise in painting including hunting scenes, dogs and horses, but other than his nationality and that he was born in 1945, we have found no further biographical detail about him. He is not included in any of our British reference books, which is not surprising, but there have been some auction sales of his work, many of which were in America.

The painting is framed in a 3" ornate, swept gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
