Description

We are offering this stunning pair of 19th Century Handpainted Porcelain Table Lamps and bespoke Silk Shades by the makers of the Downton Abbey TV series lampshades. They are unmarked but are possibly French.

The bases are a true pair and have handpainted panels showing classical female figures, each dancing with a cherub surrounded with gilding and on a deep turquoise ground.. The reverse sides bear panels of mixed flowers and butterflies. They sit upon ornate ormolu socles, which in turn rest on ornate ormolu bases with four splayed feet.

The shades are in the Ballerina style and are made of gold silk, with gold fringe overlaid with aqua beaded fringe, with a toning braid to finish.

The lamps have been completely rewired with gold braided fabric covered flex and have all new fittings, including safer switched lampholders, plugs and shade carriers. As with all electrical items it is recommended that they be checked by a fuly qualified electrician before use.

Height to top of shades 20 1/2 inches - 52cm:

Diameter of shades: 11 inches - 28cm

Bases: 4 inches - 10cm square

Materials: Porcelain and ormolu.

Condition: Very good. There is a 1 inch hairline crack running from the top of the lamp with the lady in the pink draperies down to the top right hand corner of the gilding which is only visible on very close inspection. Other than this they are both in very good condition with only a small loss of gilding, only to be expected at this age.
