Description

We are pleased to offer this stunning Table Lamp and Shade, which depicts a caparisoned Asian elephant with three heads, with its rider. After some research, we have discovered that this is a bronze representation of the Hindu God Indra (Sakra in Buddhism) riding his three headed white elephant Airavata, the kind of the elephants. The God Indra is normally shown carrying weapons, one of which is a vajra.

The bronze is mounted on an oriental style two part wooden base ( possibly teak) with bone inlay to the top oval portion, while the lower base has two curved ends. The bronze has a vergidris finish with some gilding.

The original shade is made of card backed fabric and has a vanilla coloured double fringe. We felt it was very suited to the figure, so have kept it.

The lamp has been rewired in pale gold coloured antique style braided fabric covered wire and has a new 3 amp plug. As with all electrical items it is recommended that it be checked by a qualified electrician before use.

Height to top of shade: 23 inches - 59.45cm

Base: 10 x 6 3/8 inches - 25.4cm x 16.2cm

Shade: 12 3/4 inches - 32.4cm square

Medium: Bronze & wood

Condition: Very good. There is a kink in the headdress of the God, which may be a slight fault. The shade is original but is in very good condition.
