We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning watercolour/gouache by the artist John Crank, who has signed the painting C R A N K to the lower left hand corner and dated it '71. This is his traditional signature. The painting depicts an adult barn owl, framed in a hole in a tree. The execution of the owl is masterful.

John Crank was born on 10th August, 1922 in Salford Lancashire and died in Bolton in 2008 at the age of 85. Due to our inability to check census records later than 1911, we can find no further information about his life, but he seems to have specialised in watercolours/gouaches of birds and animals. There are some images of his work on google images, and on the usual auction sites.

The painting has been newly double mounted in acid free mountboard to tone and newly framed in a 1 1/4" warm gilt frame to complement. It will be supplied glazed and with new brass hangers, new brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
