We are offering for sale this very attractive Limited Edition Signed and Blind Stamped Lithograph by the French artist and sculptor Jean Paul Cleren. The lithograph is called Visage Ocre or Ochre Face and was issued in 1985. It is signed in pencil below the plate on the right hand side by the artist and to the left the lithograph number which is 1V/XXV. The lithograph is also blind stamped Edition Van Dyck to the lower left hand corner of the plate, as shown.

Jean Paul Cleren was a French artist and sculptor, who was born in 1940 and died in 2013. He apparently lived in San Tropez and certainly an amount of his work seems to turn up in the Cannes area. His work has a muted, modern twist on surrealism and mainly subjectivises the human face and body. It is very appealing to the eye. There is a gallery selling his work on google, which waxes lyrical for several paragraphs about this artist, without really saying anything, so we leave it to any interested parties or the purchaser to read ir or not, as they wish. There appears to be little further biographical information about him online and, unfortunately, our reference books do not cover French artist of this period. He painted predominantly in watercolours and gouche and drew in indian ink and a large propertion of his work is available in limited edition lithographs.

The lithograph has been newly glazed and reframed in a 1 1/2" bronze coloured frame which tones very well with the subject matter. It will be supplied with new brass hangers and new brass picture wire so that it will be ready to hang.
