Description

This is a very fine quality 19th Century Oil Painting on chamferred panel signed by the artist with an indistinct monogram, which may be CG, CC, or CA. The painting depicts a small herd of shaggy, long-horned highland cattle heading towards a burn, or stream, in the right foreground. There is a mountain in the background, partially obscured by a cloud or the highland mist rolling in. We only wish we could give the artist a name, but we have consulted our Victorian painters list of monograms, but have been unable to find a match, as yet. All we know is that it has been executed by an expert and professional hard. The painting is very much in the style of Henry Garland, especially in view of the inclusion of the white cow.

The painting has been newly framed in a 3 1/2" reeded, gilded frame, which tones with it very well. If will be supplied with new brass hangers, new brass picture wire, so will be ready to hang on receipt.
