Description

We are offering for sale this finely executed watercolour of a spring landscape by the artist J. Lee, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner and dated it 1881. The painting is entitled on the mount Spring. The painting depicts a tranquil stream running underneath an arched bridge, with banks formed by upthrust rocks, with the trees on both banks wearing their fresh green leaves. The painting has been executed in great detail.

This is one of a pair of watercolours by this artist that we are listing. Unfortunately, as we do not know his Christian name and there are many artists with the surname Lee, we have been unable to discover any details about the artist, although we have found a few landscape oils by a J. Lee, who may be the same artist and was also painting in the late 19th Century.

The painting is double mounted in cream with washlines and is framed in a 7/8" gilt frame. It will be supplied wired with new brass picture wire, new brass fittings and will be ready to hang.
