Description

This is a lovely pink globular vase which was made by Phoenician Glass in Malta. It has an almost circular body, with a narrow neck and flared rim. It is made of pink glass, with decorated with swags of white, interspersed with fine black lines and vertical ribs of darker pink, down which are trails of fine bubbles.

Phoenician Glass was founded in Malta in 1989 by Leonard Sullivan, an ex-worker from the well known Maltese glass factory Mdina Glass. As a result, many of the early Phoenician Glass designs were similar to designs by Michael Harris at Mdina.

Michael Harris (1933-1994), was an English glassworker. With his wife Elizabeth, he set up Mdina Glass on the island of Malta in 1968. They left Malta in 1972 and founded their Isle of Wight Studio. In 1989 they started Gozo Glass on Gozo, an island near Malta, a business still operating today.
