We are offering for sale this unusual, ornate, tall cast Brass Table Lamp and its new shade from the makers of the Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge, Peaky Blinderc etc. lampshades. The lamp may formerly have been an oil lamp base or a candlestick but had already been converted.

The 19th Century base is of triform shape and bears a Continental townscape scene to each side, with a well dressed lady seated beneath an archway next to a well and surrounded by foliage, with the townscape with its towers and buildings visible through the arch.

The stunning shade is in the 'Paris' style and is made of claret silk, with paisley panels down the sides. It is trimmed with ruby and gold braid, gold fringe, which is overlaid with ruby and gold beads on the panels and a ruby ribbon tassel on each point. (Please note in the photographs the silk panel looks rather like terracotta, but it is not, it is more like the darker colour in the tassels.)

The lamp has been completely rewired in pale gold braided fabric covered flex in the antique style, and has all new fittings, including safer switched lampholder, shade carrier and plug. As with all electrcal items, it is recommended that it be checked by a qualified electrician before use.
