We are offering for sale this very well executed bust length pastel portrait on paper laid to canvas by the artist who has signed the portrait in the lower left hand corner with his initials F.S. The portrait depicts a Mayor in his red cloth, fur trimmed robes, over which is his Mayoral chain of office. He has blue eyes, is in his middle years and has light brown hair and a well trimmed moustache and beard in the style of the late Victorian or Edwardian period.

Unfortunately, although we have looked through considerable numbers of monograms and F.S. initials, we have not been able to identify the artist, although he or she must have been a professional due to the level of artistic expertise shown. The sitter's features stand out from the paper is a most realistic way.

The pastel is framed in a 1 3/4" cream and gilt ornate frame and linen slip. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Condition: Very good in all respects. The frame has some minor cracking, which is common with this type of frame and consistent with age.
