Description
We are offering for sale this lovely French wax bust of Flora, on a polished beech plinth which is circa 1900. The sculpture is called 'The triumph of Flora'.The back of the bust bears an illegible inscription, monogram and a stamped mark.
Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux was born on the 11th May 1827, in Valenciennes, the son of a mason. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1853. In 1866 he was awarded Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. He died in Courbevoie on the 12th October 1775.
