Thomas H.Gibb 1833-? Oil The Trossachs
Description
We are delighted to offer for auction this tranquil oil by the British artist THOMAS HENRY GIBB, who has signed the painting T.H.Gibb in the lower left hand corner and entitled it verso 'The Trossachs. The painting depicts a view of one of the lochs in The Trossachs. There are some cattle grazing on a spit of land jutting out into the loch and a heron is flying low over the still water. The Trossachs is now a National Park and contains several lochs. Unfortunately, we are not aware of which particular loch is pictured.THOMAS HENRY GIBB, was a Victorian artist, born in 1833, who lived in Alnwick, Northumberland. He was the father of the other well known artist H.W. Phelan Gibb 1870-1948, one of whose paintings we are also listing. He exhibited in the 1880s at the Arthur Tooth Gallery, the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Hibernian Academy. He specialised in paintings of Highland lochs, often with cattle.

The painting is framed in an ornate, 3 1/4" swept gilt frame, and is ready to hang.
