Description

We are offering for sale this well executed oil painting on canvas by an unknown artist. It depicts a bustling city street scene in Victorian times, with two young ladies out walking in their fine clothes. It is probably an autumn or winter day, as both of them have fur trim to their jackets, the one on the right is wearing gloves and the one on the left is carrying a muff. The men behind them are well dressed in top hats and suits, so this is an up market area with fine horse-drawn carriages in the street. To the right is a flower seller proffering a buttonhole to a gentleman with his scarf pulled up around his chin and carrying an umbrella.

As the painting is unsigned, we have no knowledge of the identity of the artist, although from the age of the canvas and the rust on the staples, we would consider it was probably painted in the last quarter of the twentieth century.

The painting is framed in a 2" mottled cream and gold swept frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
