Description

We are offering for sale this wonderfully executed pastel portrait which bears an indistinct signature. The portrait is of a young Italian woman in traditional costume, possibly the Lazio region around Rome. She is wearing the folded linen headdress of the area and gold hoop earrings. She has a small, blue patterned scarf around her neck, which matches the colour of her blue bodice. Underneath this she is wearing a white blouse, with full sleeves. She has a necklace of coral beads around her neck.

Unfortunately, we cannot make out the signature of the artist and, therefore, are unable to contribute any biographical information about him or her. We have shown a photograph and, if anyone recognises it, please do let us know.

The pastel has been newly double mounted in two tone acid free mountboard and is framed in a 2 1/4" ornate gilt frame, which suits it very well. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Medium: Pastels

Condition: Very good. There are 3 small cracks to the paper and one very tiny hole in the front of the bodice, as shown, which do not detract, as they are not really visible behind the glass. There is a tiny split in the old paper, just by the signature, as shown. The mounts are new and the frame is in very good condition.
