Description

We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely Doulton Lambeth Stoneware converted oil lamp, marked Hinks & Son on the base plate, with shade by the makers of the Downton Abbey TV series lampshades. The lamp is seated upon a brass stepped base with reeded rim and has a brass collar and fittings. According to the base markings (as shown), it dates to 1882, as after 1872 the year of production was impressed.

The design of the base features overlapping circles in two different designs, with raised patterning and 'jewelled' embellishments, in tones of creams, browns and blues.

The shade is in the 'Dorchester' style and is made in cream Damask, with vanilla fringe overlaid with two rows of crystal beads and finished with cream and taupe braid.

The lamp was converted at some stage in the past, but has been rewired with gold silk covered wire, and all new electrical fittings. As with all electrical items, it is recommended that it be checked by a qualified electrician before use.
