H. E. Roodenburg 1895-1987 Etching Amsterdam

Description
We are offering for sale this very attractive, large etching in colours by the Dutch artist Hendrikus Elias Roodenburg, who has signed the etching below the plate to the right and entitled it No. 60 Amsterdam to the left. The etching depicts a view of St. Nicolaaskerk and Oosterdokskade, in Amsterdam. We believe that this etching dates from circa 1940.Hendrikus Elias Roodenburg was boron on 23rd July, 1895 in The Hague. He was a painter, draftsman, etcher, engraver, watercolourist and graphic artist, who initially lived and worked in The Hague, but spent some time in Northern Italy and, from 1925, in Wassenaar, where we have read that he died, but that appears to be uncertain, as we have also read that he died in Le Hague on 27th April, 1987. He painted landscapes and still life in naturalistic style, but the main body of his work that comes to the market appears to be his etchings, which are mainly views in The Netherlands. He was predominantly self-taught, although obviously was influenced by other artists of the period. See his page on Wikipedia.
He was a Member of: Arti et Amicitiae and St. Lucas in Amsterdam, Pulchri Studio In The Hague and the Professional Association of Visual Artists (BBK). The 1997 book 'H. E. Roodenburg 1895-1987 Topographic Etcher' is an almost complete overview of his graphic work.
The etching is mounted and framed in a 1 3/4" pale grey/green and cream painted frame. It bears the label of a gallery in Amsterdam by the name of Pieter Breughel.
Plate size: 19 1/8" x 15 1/2" - 48.6cm x 39.35cm
Frame size: 28 5/8" x 25 5/8" - 72.7cm x 65.1cm
Medium: Etching in colours on paper
