Description

We are pleased to offer for sale this beautifully hand painted Porcelain Plaque, by the renowned French artist Charles Fuchs, who has signed the plaque Ch. Fuchs in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a young fishergirl, standing on a rocky shore looking out to sea, probably watching out for the return of the rest of the fishing fleet. She has bare feet and her dark blue/violet overskirt is tucked up, showing the maroon underskirt. Behind her, a group of fishermen are in the sea hauling their boat in to shore. There is a rain squall in the distance. The plaque bears its original paper label which gives a number 485,253, as shown.

We have been unable to discover any biographical details about the artist, although there are many examples of his work available on google and pinterest. He obviously specialised in hand painting on porcelain, plaques, vases, urns in the Sevres style, although he may have worked for that company.

The plaque has been newly framed in a very substantial 1 7/8" rope gilt frame with its original pine backing board. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
