Description

This is a lovely portrait oil on canvas of a young Edwardian girl with an extremely pretty face. The painting is unsigned. We believe the sitter to be under eighteen, as girls would put their hair up at that age. She was reddish blonde hair, which is loose at the back and swept up and back at the sides, under a large straw hat, with a large dark blue flat bow, with tails at the back. The bow is held with a large gilt buckle. The girl is wearing a dress in a gauzy cream or beige material, with a matching wrap.

Unfortunately, as the painting is unsigned, we can offer no biographical details about the artist.

The painting has been newly framed in a 2 7/8" bronze and gilt coloured frame, which complements its colouring and it will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Condition: Very good. The surfact is clean and taut and there is no craquelure or stretcher marks. There are two old repairs to the canvas, as shown. The frame is new.
