A. Haselgrave Watercolour Landscape

Description
We are pleased to offer for sale this beautifully toned watercolour by the artist A. HASELGRAVE, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a view of a river in autumn, meandering its way across a flat landscape at sunset. There are willow trees along the river banks and a couple of silver birches to the left. There are sheep grazing near the river. The colouring is very subtle.Having done some research on the artist, there seems to be a great deal of confusion between this artist and another by the name of Adelaide L. Haslegrave, a lady artist who exhibited between 1901 and 1916 - 1 work at the Royal Academy and 1 at the Society of Women Artists. She is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists and lived in London.
There are also listings for an Albert Haselgrave on the auction results sites, but nothing recorded in the reference books, which means he did not exhibit.
Jeremy Wood, in his excellent book 'Hidden Talents' states the following-
'A Haselgrave (Fl.c. 1890-1920) Painter in watercolour of haymaking scenes and rural landscapes. The work of this prolific artist is often seen on the market and although the quality is variable the pleasing subject matter has made the work increasingly popular. Titles of known works include 'Haymaking' 1893, 'A Surrey Common', 'The Sussex Downs', 'Harvesting near Lustleigh', and 'Evening near Redruth'. The artist's name is thought to be Albert, although he is frequently catalogued as, and confused with, Adelaide L. Haslegrave despite the different spelling of the surname. He signed his work 'A. Haselgrave' sometimes with a date.'
It is, however, our suggestion that they are both one and the same, as the palette used, the subject matter, the signature and the locations of the paintings are extremely similar and it may be that A. Haselgrave is simply a pseudonym used by Adelaide Haslegrave, for reasons known only to her. However, it is for the buyer to do their own research and decide for themselves. Auction results for both spellings (very often confused) are available at the usual sites.
The painting has been newly double mounted in two tone to complement and is newly framed in a 1 1/2" gilt frame to suit. It is ready to hang.
