Description

This item is a Murano Stylised Glass Pheasant and comes from the Island of Murano in the Venetian lagooon. The Pheasant is in turquoise glass on a heavy, clear glass base. The body and tail of the bird and the base have ribbed silver inclusions, whilst the crest, beak and top of the head have gold inclusions.

Murano has been the centre of the Italian glass industry for hundreds of years and, in the early days, the glass blowers of Murano were forbidden to leave the Island, to stop the secrets of their industry becoming known to any competitors.
