Description

We are offering for sale this large wooden sculpture of a Coelacanth by the artist Clive Fredriksson, who has signed the sculpture on its base, but rather indistinctly. However, having spoken to Clive Fredriksson on the telephone, he has confirmed the work as his, one he produced for a gallery a few years ago.

The Coelacanth is a fish which was thought for many years to be extinct, until one was discovered in 1938 by a South African museum curator. It has been found, but rarely, off the coast of Indonesia, one of only two in this location hit the headlines in 2007, and the East Coast of Africa. It is sometimes called the living fossil as it has changed little over the millennia.

Clive Fredriksson is an artist, primarily in oils, and a sculptor. He was born in the 1960s in Zimbabwe, into an artistic family, where he was always encouraged to paint. He paints wildlife and farm animals, as well as some landscapes and figure studies. His ambition is to have his work in every country in the world and he is well on his way to completing this wish. His brother, Tony Fredriksson, is also an internationally recognised sculptor in wood, who, for the past ten years, has been specialising in driftwood sculptures of fish and birds.

Clive has been a full time artist for the last 25 years and undertakes four one-man shows a year. He has a BA in Fine Art and currently resides in Eastbourne.
