Charles Oswald b.1850 Oil Highland Cattle Watering
Description
We are offering for sale this lovely oil on canvas by the artist CHARLES W. OSWALD, who has signed the painting C.W. Oswald in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a Highland landscape on a sunny morning, with a small herd of shaggy, highland cattle watering at the edge of a loch, in the foreground. There is mist hanging in the valleys between mountains in the background.We are also listing the companion painting to this one.
CHARLES W. OSWALD was born in Germany circa 1850, according to the Census record of 1891, which lists him living at 66 Barnes Street Everton, West Derby, Liverpool, aged 41, with his wife Jennie and a domestic servant. His birthplace is clearly listed as Germany. He was an artist who, though very prolific, exhibited very little. He specialised in highland landscapes, rural scenes and painting featuring cattle and and working horses painted in oils. He was living at 258 Whitefield Road in Liverpool in 1892, the year that he did exhibit at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. He is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists, Painters in the Northern Counties of England and Wales by Dennis Child and A Dictionary of Neglected Artists by Jeremy Wood.

The painting has been newly framed in a 3" ornate gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
