Description

We are offering for sale this lovely 1950s Murano hand-blown mezza filligrana Decanter/Bottle in a shade of turquoise with white stripes, which still bears its original Murano label. It has obviously never been used as a decanter but was probably in a cabinet for decorative purposes.

The Decanter has a hand blown hollow spiral twist stopper with turquoise glass knop. There is applied clear glass ribbing to the neck on both sides and around the foot. The base bears the pontil mark where the blown bottle was snapped off from the rod, which is a mark of hand-blown glass.

The Island of Murano is located in the Venetian lagoon and has been the centre of the Italian glass blowing industry for hundreds of years. Originally the glass blowers of Murano were not allowed to leave the Island for fear of the secrets of their industry being lost to competitors.

What a beautiful gift for any glass collector or lover of beautiful things!
