Description

We are offering for sale this hallmarked Silver Miniature Coronation Throne, which bears a clear set of 1910 hallmarks for the well known London makers Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders and James Francis Hollings Shepherd, who were located at Bartlett's Building, Holborn Circus, London from 1873-1902. Please see the image of the hallmark.

This chair was produced on the accession to the throne of George V after the death of Edward VII. This miniature shows the Coronation Throne of all the monarchs of England since the 16th Century in great detail and includes the Stone of Scone, which was captured from the Scots and has, in 1996 on the 700 anniversary of its capture, been returned to Scotland. It now resides in Edinburgh Castle, with the proviso that it will be returned to the chair in Westminster Abbey, for all future coronations.

The miniature shows pierced quatrefoils to the two sides and the texture of the wood to the back and seat. It also has the four lions guarding the four corners of the base.
