Description

This is a Victorian pierced brass Footman in wonderful condition. The top and sides all have a pierced pattern, and the overhanging lip of the top is also shaped and pierced, as shown.

The frame is wrought iron and is painted black to protect the iron, and the brass is fixed to the frame using brass dome head rivets. The front legs are cabriole and in brass, with shaped feet.

As opposed to trivets, which were used in kitchens, footmen were for use in the parlour, to warm dishes, muffins etc. and to stand kettles on.
