Until 1922 Dublin Castle was the seat of the British government's administration in Ireland. The Castle served as the seat of English, then later British, government of Ireland under the Lordship of Ireland (1171–1541), the Kingdom of Ireland (1541–1800) and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (1800–1922).The building served as a military fortress, a prison, a treasury and courts of law. Dublin gun makers made over 60,000 weapons for Dublin Castle and many were sent to America during the war of independence (1775-1783). Rounded steel military skull-crusher butt-cap, matching military style trigger-guard, fore-end band and side-plate. British proof marks to the 7 inch barrel Action in good working order.
