Description

This is incredibly rare, the Elcho sword bayonet developed by lord Elcho in 1869 and accepted by the committee for small arms in 1871. This one has only one marking on the blade “probably private issue “. The blade has a swelling spear point said to have been inspired by the native assagai and a saw back. Leather diced grips solid and firm no splits press stud works freely blade straight dark age patina very light pitting in places . I have only had three of these in fifty years of buying antique weapons . I guess this one survived because it was screwed to a wall in a pub hence the drilled hole in the blade
