Description

A clean, untouched 1821 pattern light cavalry sword and scabbard. Three bar guard with wire bound shagreen grip. Highly decorated blade. Generally very good condition overall, including the shagreen grip. Hilt tight to the blade. Even patina to the hilt and scabbard, the 34.75 inch blade retaining most of its factory finish. Housed in its original steel scabbard with twin hanging rings. Fits excellently.

The ricasso is marked on one side by the maker:

‘S.J.Pillin’
‘31.Gerard’s’
‘London’
‘W’
…. and the reverse with ordnance star and inlaid roundel.
Pillin operated from Soho in London from 1862.
W.W. White, Frances St, Woolwich. 100853 is etched on the spine at the ricasso.
